The last days of summer are winding into fall and before we know it, we will be back to the grind. Whether it’s back-to-school time in your household or just a shift in the summer mindset, finding easy ways to stay healthy when things get hectic can be a bit of a challenge. These 5 tips are some easy, manageable ways to add in that extra nutrition, even when you don’t have time to think about it!

 

Lemon Water: Lemon water is a great way to add extra nutrients into your diet first thing in the morning in the form of Vitamin C and potassium. Plus, lemon water is extremely alkalizing and can help aid in detoxification and digestion. [1]  Drink a small glass of lemon water before you head out the door to feel amazing all day!

 

Trail Mix: Although mostly thought of as a great snack for hiking or an outdoor activity, it can also be great to grab when you’re heading out the door for some extra nutrition and healthy fats to keep you energized throughout the day. Prepare a batch of trail mix at the beginning of the week to have on hand for busy mornings! Just be sure not to include anything unhealthy like candy or chocolate. Nuts and dried fruits are great on their own.

 

Fruit Salad: Who doesn’t love a delicious fruit salad?! If you’re one of those people that isn’t very hungry in the morning, fruit salad is a great option. Be sure to include lots of low-sugar fruits like berries, which are high in nutrients and antioxidants and only a little of higher-sugar fruit like bananas, apples and oranges. This way, you don’t get a sugar spike in the morning and crash during the day.

 

Coconut Water with Chia: This amazing combination is just like a natural energy drink! Chia seeds are rich in Omega-3s and contain fiber, protein, calcium, magnesium and iron, just to name a few. Combined with the hydration and electrolytes you get from coconut water, adding a tablespoon or so to a glass of coconut water is perfect for an early morning boost.[2]
